Brent Ehrler Wins on Lake Havasu

Before the tournament on Lake Havasu began this past weekend, Lucky Craft’s Brent Ehrler received tragic news.  Some of his best friends had died in a plane crash. Obviously devastated, Ehrler wasn’t sure he could compete, but he finally decided to give it his all with one goal in mind – to win for his dear friends.  And that is just what he did …

“I really want to dedicate this to all of my friends who passed away,” Ehrler said.  “I never thought I could win. To honor them like this means so much to me.”

With a four-day total of 57 pounds, 11 ounces, Brent Ehrler brought home a win in the first Walmart FLW Series National Guard Western Division event of the season.  After fishing a Stren Series event on Lake Havasu several years ago and finishing in second, Ehrler learned a few things that came into play this weekend.

“I really learned that you have to find new water every day,” Ehrler told FLWOutdoors.com.  “And that was the key for me this week.  I’d catch a limit early and then spend the rest of the day running around looking for new fish to catch.  The next day, I’d catch those fish and do the same thing all over again.”

Ehrler was sight-fishing for the majority of the tournament, and he was using Lucky Craft’s pitching rod and flipping rod (image below).  The California native told the Daily Crank the rods were “key to landing the big fish.”
