For those who of you who may have missed it, Ryan Chandler won the March 14th, BFL on Kentucky/Barkley Lake with 29lbs. That was just shy of 7lbs over 2nd place. The winning pattern was deadsticking a Lucky Craft Pointer 100 in 10-15ft of water.
Lucky Craft pro Cary Bever practiced with Chandler two days before the tournament. Snow and 32 degrees were the conditions of the day. Bever mentioned normally the crankbait bite is the deal on Kentucky Lake. But after a really slow bone-chilling morning with just a few dinks to count, he suggested they lay off the trolling motor, slow down and throw a jerkbait.
“Within the first 10 minutes, I caught a 7-1/2 pounder,” said Bever. “I was deadsticking the jerkbait, sometimes pausing for 15-20 seconds and then the line would just jump! Finally Ryan asked me what color I was throwing and I wasn’t exactly sure so Ryan just called it the ‘Beeve’ Shad. I had buddies calling me and all I heard about for the next three days was what color is the ‘Beeve Shad.’ It really got crazy when Ryan went out and won the tournament with 29lbs.”
When Bever got home, the “Beeve Shad” was discovered to be………. drumroll please……. Ghost Pearl Ayu.
During the tournament, Chandler made a run 55 miles in one direction and he had his 29lbs pounds by 11am. He stopped fishing and was back to the ramp by noon.
Congratulations Ryan!!!

Lucky Craft baits are winning a lot of tournaments this year. Is LC going to rename the ghost pearl ayu color to “beeve” shad?
Your’re right, what a start to 2009 !!!
Skeet Reese / Bassmaster Classic – Redemption Spinnerbait
Roy Hawk / FLW Western Stren – LV 500
Anthony Gagliardi / FLW Tour – Pointer 100DD
Ryan Chandler / Kentucky Lake BFL – Pointer 100
I hope it continues!!
I don’t think they will rename Ghost Pearl Ayu, it was what the buddies of Cary Bever were calling it because no one knew the exact color. Now we know!
Thanks
Congratulations to Cary Bever for the win and to Lucky Craft for making it and so many others happen.
Very Nice! Man, “pausing for 15-20 seconds”, I don’t know if I could od that… You’ve got some serious self discipline! I’m lucky if I can pull that off with 3-5 seconds!
Way to go Cary Bever, Ryan Chandler and LuckyCraft!
$650,577.00 and a Boat, Motor and Trailer in less than a Month in the 4 Wins. LuckyCrafts are putting some serious cash into the bank accounts of the users.
Good to see Beeve on the move away from the frozen northern Wisconsin area. Congrats to all the winners! Hope to add my name soon.
what really is deadsticking & when, where do you use this most?
