Reese Finishes Sixth on Dardanelle

Six Lucky Craft pros competed for the win on Dardanelle, but after a long fog delay on day one and a cancellation on day three (Saturday), Lucky Craft’s Skeet Reese was the only angler able to make it into the top 12 to fish on Sunday.

“It was a very good tournament, and I was pleasantly surprised,” Reese said of his sixth-place finish.  “I didn’t expect that, because I honestly didn’t know if I was even going to be able to catch a bass going into the first day.”

Reese was fishing upriver in an area he found during practice that yielded only a few small bites.  However, on day one, after the first hour of fishing, he caught a limit and was quite surprised.

“I was throwing the Lucky Craft RC 2.5 in Chartreuse Perch, flipping a black and blue jig and throwing a green pumpkin Crazy Lake Chigger Craw,” Reese said.  “I would throw the RC on rock jetties and riprap upriver and was fishing it on 20-pound fluorocarbon with my glass rod.”

Lucky Craft angler standings:

Skeet Reese -  6th

  • Main baits were the Lucky Craft RC 2.5 in Chartreuse Perch, a black and blue jig and a green pumpkin Crazy Lake Chigger Craw
  • Fished backwater creeks and ponds upriver, focusing mainly on areas with riprap
  • Fished the RC2.5 on rock jetties on 20-pound fluorocarbon with his glass rod

Casey Ashley -  20th

Gerald Swindle -  39th

  • Switched between the RC 1.5 and the BDS 2 in practice
  • During the tournament, Swindle used an 8-inch lizard most of the time, fishing it around stumps
  • The key was to keep the bait moving, and Swindle fished in about 10 inches of water

Kelly Jordon -  45th

  • Caught fish on a soft plastic jerkbait
  • Fished a spawning flat, backwater area on day one
  • Fish moved out of his area on day two, so Jordon moved around and brought in three fish on Friday

Marty Stone - 71st

  • Fished the Lucky Craft Marty 1.2 and a jig around lay downs, logs and rocks
  • Fished the crankbait around anything with smooth edges, burning it down the sides
  • Switched to the jig around anything that had a lot of brush

Takahiro Omori -  78th

  • Caught most of his fish on the Lucky Craft RC 1.5 in a custom color
  • Fished around rocky, channel swing banks looking for pre-spawn fish on day one
  • Changed it up on day two and fished spawning pockets
