Fall is a great time of year to catch bass on Lake Amistad using the Lucky Craft Gunfish. Lucky Craft’s Kelly Jordon catches them really well this time of year in colors such as MS American Shad, Ghost Minnow and Clear Laser Ghost.
The water is really clear, and these fish want something shiny that mimics the baitfish.
“MS American Shad really mimics the baitfish well on this lake,” Jordon said. “Chrome colors are also good on Lake Amistad, and the real translucent colors get the job done, too. The clearer the baits, the deadly they are on clear lakes like Amistad. They look a lot more natural to the fish, especially when they’re able to get a good look.”
Lake Amistad has a lot of structure, deep points, humps, grass and timber, and according to Jordon, there will be schools of fish near all of these areas.
“You can work the Gunfish really fast and call fish up out of deep depths,” Jordon said. “And it’s a great schooling bait. I work the Gunfish really fast and don’t let it sit for too long. I don’t want the fish to look at it for long.”
Another great aspect of the Gunfish, according to Jordon, is its castability.
“You can cast 20- to 30-percent farther with the Gunfish than with any other topwater lure,” Jordon added.
